About the Author
Portland illustrator and fine artist Lisa Congdon, named one of 2015's 40 Women over 40, was raised in both upstate New York and Northern California where she grew to love the trees and animals that surrounded her. That love is now expressed through her paintings and drawings. Lisa is predominantly self taught and did not begin painting until she was 31 years old. She is also a prolific collector of old and unusual things and surrounds herself with these things in her home & studio. In 2010 she chronicled her collections in her Collection A Day 2010 Project. That project is now a book, published in March 2011. In 2012, Lisa engaged in another daily project called 365 Days of Hand Lettering, 100 of her hand lettered quotes from that project published by Chronicle Books in Spring of 2014. Lisa is also the author of 50 Ways to Draw a Tulip, Just Add Color: Folk Art, Just Add Color: Geometric Patterns, and Draw 500 Fabulous Flowers. She was named one of 2015's 40 Women to Watch over 40.

This book will break you out of your doodle dilemma!

If you are like me and were tired of drawing daisies, then you'll love this book. This book will break you out of the daisy dilemma. You'll start drawing more flowers, even flowers you didn't know existed. You will marvel that the world had these types of flowers in it and you will marvel even more that you can draw them. I had fun with this book when I first got it and literally didn't put it down for a week or so. But you can bet I will pull it out whenever I want to draw flowers and plants for my home made cards. Great resource!

Good Idea & Practice Book

The books in this series are all great. In this one, "20 Ways to Draw a Tulip", much more than tulips are covered. Sure, there are plenty of tulips - there are drawings upon drawings of tulips - but there are also some other things included. There is a lot of open space in the book - meant to encourage the reader to become more of a participant by doodling the trees in their own imagination, or practicing the doodles throughout the book.
This book is great to keep in my car. It's easy to whip it out and work on a page - practice my doodling - while I wait for kids at various activities. In addition to this volume, I purchased "20 Ways to Draw a Trees". That book is very similar to this one, and I would recommend both for artists - or doodlers - of any age.
