remote from the interests of the present day

The author cautions us in the introduction:

"...it would be difficult to find anything as remote from the interests of the present day as the contents of this book"

and indeed he is right. the pursuit of wisdom seems so remote from our world as to be beyond quaint. Conze, whose other writings are Buddhism are exemplary, is in good humor about the exoticism of his concerns. He proceeds anyway with translations of the Diamond and Heart Sutras, two short discourses on meditative wisdom that are roughly contemporary with the last of the Christian Gospels.
The beauty of these translations must lie, for most of us , in the translator's comments. They are subtle,sharp and wry and turn us back at every instance to the radical difference of Buddhism from other world religions and from other philosophical systems.
These sutras are especially good companion reading to the contemporary Christian texts as they highlight the differences in concerns between tradtions and suggest the possible width of spiritual discourse.

This edition, from Allen and Unwin, is the one to get, the paperback is flimsy and hard to hold.

I was kind of hoping for more fashion writing and examples. There's a lot of history and theory in here but still considering I have no fashion basis and my last reading on criticism was probably in a philosophy class fifteen years ago it was an easy enough read. I could follow along and all that. It just wasn't really what I was looking for on the subject manner.

About the Author
Dr. Susie H. VanHuss received her B.S. degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and her MBA and Ph.D. degrees from Indiana University. Her teaching specialties include business communications, administrative systems, and personnel management. Her work, includes textbooks in communications, keyboarding and word processing, and office technology. She has written numerous journal articles and has served on the editorial review boards of several leading business education journals.

Dr. Connie M. Forde is a full professor and head of the Department of Instructional Systems and Workforce Development at Mississippi State University, where she leads undergraduate programs in information technology services, business technology teacher education, and industrial technology, as well as graduate programs in instructional technology. Dr. Forde also continues to advise doctoral students on their dissertation research. Prior to her tenure at Mississippi State University, she was a business teacher at both the community college and secondary levels. She earned her B.S. and M.Ed. degrees in business education from the University of Southern Mississippi and her Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Mississippi. Dr. Forde serves as coauthor of the COLLEGE KEYBOARDING series and a variety of word processing and integrated applications textbooks and simulations. She is a recognized contributor to the professional literature and a speaker at state, regional, and national conferences. Additionally, she has served as president of the National Business Education Association, Southern Business Education Association, and National Council of Pi Omega Pi, and chair of the Foundation for the Future of Business Education.

Donna L. Woo is an instructor and department coordinator for Information Systems/Office Automation at Cypress College and associate director of education at Pacific College. She received her B.A. and M.A. degrees in business education from Michigan State University and earned her Ed.D. from Nova University. Her industry experience includes work for both IBM and General Motors. I purchased this book as an updated version to a typing book I had already owned. I find this one to be as detail oriented. I also purchased it to brush up on my typing skills along with my Microsoft Word 2010 skills. So far I find the lessons like in the previous versions of this book are very easy to follow.

i use this item for school and there was a big difference using it in school than it was using it at home.....my teacher cant c my work online from school thru the web report. When I use the same username and password that I have in school at home....all of the information is erased (my work) I like the program itself just not the difficulty being caused......

About the Author

Charlotte J. Patterson, Ph.D., is Professor of Psychology and Director of the Women, Gender & Sexuality program at the University of Virginia. Her recent work has focused on sexual orientation, human development, and family lives, especially on the development of children with lesbian and gay parents. Dr. Patterson is a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science (APS) as well as of the American Psychological Association (APA), and is a past-President of the Society for Psychological Research on Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Issues.

Anthony R. D'Augelli, Ph.D., is Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs and Outreach in the College of Health and Human Development and Professor of Human Development at The Pennsylvania State University. His work has focused on the development of sexual orientation, especially during adolescence and late adulthood. Dr. D'Augelli is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, and an Editorial Board Member for several journals including the Journal of GLBT Family Studies, the Journal of LGBT Youth, and Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior.

Fish Identification Bible for Divers

This book is extremely well laid out. Every photo shows the fish in exactly the same position. If you are a scuba diver or snorkler who wants to know what you are seeing, this book is your best source. In addition to photos, the authors offer information about areas where the fish is likely to be found, the maximum size and where they like to hang out. I highly recommend this book, well worth the price.
