Important book for coastal - and maritime engineers

Safety and reliability engineers responsible for the design of maritime structures can find in Goda's book all necessary background information for the probabilistic description of loads on those structures. No other book currently exists which gives such a complete overview of all methods to describe random sea waves, with particular attention to the extreme waves. This second edition (2000) contains a number of extensions w.r.t. the first edition (1985) and some sections have been rewritten. The reviewer especially enjoyed studying Goda's outline on correlation models between successive wave heights, marginal probability density functions of wave periods, and joint distributions of wave heights and periods of waves with narrow-band spectra.

I realy use this book often at clinicals. It is small and I bring it everyday with me. It has a lot of information in it for its sizs and you can wright on the pages and clean it off with an alcohol wipe. I would recommend this to anyone. I bought mine used and it is awesome condition.

Human Parasitology, Second Edition, provides succinct coverage of the ways that human parasites illustrate myriad aspects of the biology of parasitism. Intended for a one-semester course, this thoroughly revised text includes updated references to primary research, new chapters on parasites that afflict AIDS patients, new illustrations, and coverage of emerging and increasingly important parasites such as Cryptosporidium and Cyclospora. Intended to appeal to a wide variety of students in the health professions, as well as to biology students in related disciplines, this comprehensive yet compact book will be useful as a reference both in and out of class.

About the Author
Burton J. Bogitsh received his undergraduate education in biology at New York University (University Heights) and his graduate education at Baylor University (M.A.) and the University of Virginia (Ph.D.). He is currently Professor Emeritus of Biological Sciences at Vanderbilt University. He has authored more than 100 publications in the area of parasitology and has co-authored a textbook in General Zoology. He is an associate editor of the Journal of Morphology, co-editor of Volume 2 of the Microscopical Anatomy of Invertebrates, and has contributed many chapters to numerous edited volumes on parasitology. His research interests are in the ultrastructural localization of enzymes in helminths with a primary focus on the digestive tracts of trematodes.

Dr. Carter received his B.A. and M.A. degrees in biology at Loma Linda University and his Ph.D. degree at the University of California at Los Angeles. He is currently a Professor Biological Sciences at Vanderbilt University. He has authored more than 70 publications with a primary focus on the biochemistry and immunology of parasites. He has contributed chapters in several edited volumes such as The Biology of the Tapeworm, Hymenolepis diminuta, and has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Parasitology. His current research interests are centered on the host-parasite interactions of the causative agent of Chagas’ disease, Trypanosoma cruzi.

QUANTUM PHYSICS EXPLAINED BY A FAMOUS SCIENTIST, GEORGE GAMOW, WHO ALSO PROPOSED A CURRENT THEORY NOW IN VOGUE. THIS WAS THE "BIG BANG" THEORY OF EVOLUTION OF THE UNIVERSE'S CAUSE AND BEGINNINGS. THIS HAS EVENTUALLY WON OUT AS A CURRENTLY LEADING THEORY OF COSMIC BEGINNINGS, NOW EXPANDED INTO INITIAL UNIVERSE DEVELOPMENT KNOWN AS "STRING THEORY." FOR A WHILE IT WAS PROPOSED THAT THERE WAS A "STEADY STATE" THEORY OF THE UNIVERSE IN THE 1950S, WHICH WAS LATER PROVEN UNSUPPORTABLE BY MORE RECENT DISCOVERIES THAT TEND TO CONFIRM THE "BIG BANG" CONCEPT AS THE WORKING MODEL FOR NOW. BOTH "DARK MATTER" AND "BACKGROUND NOISE" LEFT OVER FROM THE "BIG BANG" MESH WELL WITH GAMOW'S MODEL OF THE UNIVERSE.

Enjoying the book but

Makes me wish I stayed awake in Math class. Some of the text is made up of formulas that make my head spin. However I am enjoying reading the stories of the men and their reasoning behind the explinations of how the world works at the atomic level versus the "real world " physics of Newton and others. Definitely a time when what we knew to be true was vastly different from what was actually true.
